Round 10: Cipriani-Sharpe Family

Alot of things happened last week in the Cipriani-Sharpe household. Ben became an elder, his girlfriend Roxie turned up pregnant and immediately admitted that she had been cheating with her old college flame. Upset, but too tired to really fight it, Ben decided to make ammends with Roxie and help her raise her unborn child (not knowing if it was his or not). Baby girl Eden was born, and a paternity test showed Jonah Powers (Roxie's old flame) to be the father. When Roxie broke the news to Jonah he refused to help and made it clear he wanted nothing to do with his daughter (what a deadbeat...sheesh!). Still, Ben stood behind Roxie...until her untimely demise only days after her daughters birth. Now Ben is left to raise Eden on his own.

Ben finally reached the top of his career (Criminal Mastermind), meeting his LTW at the same time. He had hired a nanny to help him look after Eden while he worked.

Once he had fullfilled his LTW, he was ready to retire. Feeling like had missed so much of his sons lives by being at work all the time made him realize he did not want to make the same mistake with Eden.

Though he had initially refused to have anything to do with his daughter, after he heard that Roxie had passed away, Jonah came to the house. Ben, though nervous to let Jonah near Eden, did not want to risk losing the opportunity that Jonah would want to participate in his child's life. Plus if Ben had resisted, and Jonah had persisted, he may have been able to take her away completely and that was the last thing that Ben wanted.

He had allowed Jonah alone time with his daughter that afternoon, though Ben paced the hallway outside the room the entire duration of the visit. Jonah seemed to be opening up to the idea of being a parent, but he himself was still in college and not ready to go it alone.

Ben and Jonah had their first civilized discussion, and Ben explained that he was happy to raise Eden. But at the same time he confessed his worries that he would not live long enough to see her through to adulthood. Without wanting to put pressure on Jonah, Ben let him go with a handshake. Jonah promised to return regularly, and even said he would be there for her upcoming birhtday.

But Eden's birthday came and went and there had been no word from her father since the day he visited. Ben tried not to let it bother him, but he though that he had sensed a change in the young man and was dissapointed to see he was mistaken.

Eden was growing into a lovely girl. She favored her mother in looks (thank goodness), and was vibrant and outgoing.

Ben tried to explain what had happened to her mother, and even bits and pieces about her father, but worried he would confuse the poor girl. He loved her like she was his own, she even called him "papa".

Jonah made another attempt, showing up one evening completely out of the blue. Eden hardly acknowledged him, to her he was just another stranger.

Jonah was angry that his daughter didn't know him...it was nobody's fault but his own, though he did not seem to see it that way. He reprimanded Ben as if he was responsible. But at the end of his rant, there was nothing left to be said, so he left. They have not heard from Jonah since, but Ben knew that it wasn't the last they would see of him.

Thinking of the short amount of time Ben had left, he did whatever he could to try to protect Eden. He contacted her only other known family, Roxie's brother Edwin Sharpe. But Edwin took it worse that Ben had hoped. He stated that he didn't want to "spend the rest of his life cleaning up his siters mistakes" (his own words). Ben wasn't sure what to do next. He thought for sure he could convince Edwin to at least act like the uncle he was to her.

Meanwhile, blissfully unaware of the turmoil her life had created, Eden was growing up like any normal kid. She had several friends such as Cosette Jayapalan and Fiona Barthelet (Eden pictured above with Cosette).

She did okay in school, and Ben hoped to get her into private school in the future. He had decided to give up on her real family...all she needed was him and he was prepared to devote his life to her as much if not more so than when her mother had first passed away. He would find someone to look out for her in the event of his death, that or he would make sure she was prepared for everything that life would throw at her.
